Wondering where your pooch’s will get their dog park fix if you’re considering moving to the area; I took a Saturday and made visits to all the dog parks with my son’s dog Holly and here’s how we rated them! Also, at the bottom of the post is a list of vets in the area.
Dog Park Ratings:
- Ashley Dog Park in Auburn
- Rruff Dog Park in Rocklin
- Bear Dog Park in Roseville (the best amenities of the Roseville Parks)
- Hughes Dog Park in Roseville
- Marco Dog Park in Roseville – I would not recommend this park
Ashley Dog Park – 1601 Auburn Ravine Road Auburn 95603
Of all the parks this is defiantly the nicest one! Located in Ashford Park, the dog park is beautiful, there are plenty of trees, a path around the large dog grassy area, benches, chairs, wading pools for the dogs and even a waterfall. They also have separate small and large dog areas. I met a variety of people and dogs, everyone was pleasant and the dogs were all well-mannered and friendly. My son’s dog Holly totally enjoyed herself!
RRuff Dog Park – 5480 5th Street Rocklin 95677
This is the only dog park in Rocklin and is located in Johnson-Springview Park which is in the older part of Rocklin. There’s no grass but loads of bark for the dogs to run on. There’s a small and large dog area. This park was very clean, people and dogs were very friendly. There’s dog agility equipment in both the small and large dog areas. This was the only park that had agility equipment in the small dog area. There were benches scattered throughout the park and tons of big oak trees for shade.
Bear Dog Park – 1575 Pleasant Grove Blvd Roseville 95747
This park is about 2 acres and has separate areas for dogs under and over 20 pounds. The large dog side has an agility area. Both sides have covered seating areas and a walkway around the grass. There are also 2 enclosures where you can wash your pooch, concrete pads with water, drains and they are fenced. I visited this park about 10:30am and there were close to 20 dogs in the small dog area and most of their owners were seniors, it looked like a real social event. The big dog area has plenty of room to throw your tennis balls without worry of going over the fence. All the dogs were getting along well. The park is named after the first k-9 to be on the Roseville PD force.
Hughes Dog Park – 1600 Parkside Way Roseville 95747
This park is smaller about 1 ½ acres and also has the under and over 20 pound yards. You have to park next to the tennis courts so it’s a short walk to the dog park. There’s no wash area or covered benches. I was here about 11:15am and there was only one lady there with her dog Lucy, playing. She mentioned that it’s the busiest between 7:30 and 10:00am. I went back in the evening and there were three owners and their dogs. This seems to be a low key dog park. Hughes Park is about 130 acres with walking trails which you can also take your dogs on but they need to be on a leash. The back of the dog area backs to open space and there were wild turkeys wandering around….good for barking!
Marco Dog Park – 1800 Sierra Gardens Drive Roseville 95661
This is the only park in Roseville that’s on the East side of I-80, off Douglas Blvd. Marco Dog Park is about 1 ½ acres and there’s some muddy areas along the back side of the park. There’s no covered seating and only a few trees in the actual grass area. When I took my son’s dog there we encountered owners that couldn’t control their dogs, which were also dog aggressive, there was even a dog fight. This park was also named after Marco another Roseville PD K-9.

I’ve gone to North Fork Vet in Auburn for over 20 years, the vet I used to take my pets to has retired and my new favorite vet is Laura Reich and if she’s busy my second choice is Cori Mulliken.
For alternative veterinary care I love Bowman Veterinary Hospital. I’ve taken my dog there for acupuncture and Chinese herbs. Kelly Chandler is wonderful, my dog loves her!
I recently went to VCA Sacramento Veterinary Referral Center and they were wonderful! My dog had a limp and was diagnosed and had elbow surgery within a week. It was like taking your pet to a human hospital, very professional and round the clock care.
